Being HH
You know what's weird about being a big movie star? People are always trying
to give you scripts. I was at Starbucks, and the guy who makes the espresso
said he was glad to see me again, and would I want some coffee. I thought
that was kind of funny, because I had just ordered coffee, but then he went
on break and sat at my table. Real close. I said "look, I know you're an
actor and probably want some advice because I was on L.A. Law," and he said
no, he was taking a screenwriting class at Cerritos College, and he wanted
to give me a script to give to Bochco. That kind of stuff happens all the
time.

L.A. Law
I'd really like to do another L.A. Law series. We did a movie, but that was
really just because Michael Tucker and Jill Eikenberry really needed the
work. They practically got on their knees. But a series would be great. It
could be my law firm now, and I could solve crimes and stuff.

Sad
There's nothing sadder than watching a guy try to use his former stardom to
manipulate people. I mean, it's easy for me--my career is still skyrocketing,
and I have a stack of scripts at home to read. But when I'm out at the Farm
in Beverly Hills, for example, and a guy like Steve Martin is acting like
he's something big, instead of just some standup comic from the seventies. I
mean, when was that last time that guy was doing comedy? I haven't kept up
with his career, but I go to the Improv a lot, and I never see him.
Or the other night, when I was at a club, and a certain actor (I won't say
his name, but he was in a movie that had a number in the title. And a
fraction. And "Weeks") was going around trying to get girls to go home with
him just because he was famous. "Want to come home and see my refrigerator?"
It was pathetic. I just played it cool, and since the club was in L.A.,
everyone pretended they didn't recognize me and left me alone.

Shooting Star
Huh. I turned on the comments, but it seems like all anyone wanted to talk
about was Texas Hold 'em. I'm not sure what that is, so I turned it off.
My career. What a ride it's been. I think Frank Sinatra said that, and my
career has been the same. Except with Jimmy Smits instead of Sammy Davis.
The key to acting is to be a GOOD ACTOR. I know that sounds obvious, but I
started out doing "Taming of the Shrew" on TV, and man, Shakespeare is hard.
You have to really know what you're doing.
The second key is to MAKE CHOICES. I mean, I was huge after "Clash of the
Titans." Huge. I probably could have done Clash II, III, and so on. Like
Stallone or Schwarzenhagger. Heck, it could be Governor Hamlin instead of
Governor Shwartzenhager! And unlike Arnold, I could be President because I
was born in Pasadena! But I chose not to do the action hero thing. I decided
to be brave and play a gay guy. It was ahead of it's time--Tom Hanks got an
Oscar for doing that later. (I'm not gay, though--I've been with some A-list
babes!)
But my real break of course was playing Michael Kuzak on "L.A. Law. "That
was a great career move, really. I mean, I could have done other things
after "Clash." I could have been "Superman" instead of Reeves, but look how
that worked out for that poor bastard. I'm an actor first. I remember when I
saw "Killing Fields," I thought, "I could have done that role so much
better." I mean, nothing against Haing Ngor, but I've done Shakespeare.
Since "L.A. Law," of course, my career has been one triumph after another. I
mean, some guys, like Smits, just bounce from series to series, joining it
late, when no one really cares anymore. But I don't do that. I'm a MOVIE
STAR. I've done some more T.V., but even there, everyone knows I'm a movie
star. It's just like the Shakespeare or the sexy thing. It just never leaves
you.

Why
Yes, why. Isn't that always the question? Why am I using this blog, or to
coin a phrase, "blogging"? I'm not really much of a writer. I remember Mrs.
Garcia, my high school English teacher at Pasadena High, saying "Harry, you
may be the sexiest high school student alive, but you can't write." She'd
probably go to jail for that now. Back then, a comment like that from your
teacher, or a little light petting, was considered normal. Just part of the
educational process.
Anyway, I know there's a lot of young people out there, especially young
actors, who look up to me and wonder how they can be--let me coin another
phrased here--a "shooting star" like HH. That's me. I'm HH. So I hope I can
do that. If I can figure out how to get this comments thing working, I'll
answer your questions.

Im getting the hang of this contraption
Hey, this blogging thing is easy, even for the Sexiest Man Alive! It's
really fun. It seems like everyone has one now. I wonder what blog means?
